About Hugo Tanov
Hugo Tanov is a recording artist, producer, and trumpet player based in Los Angeles. His decadent yet uplifting sound incorporates a blend of RnB harmonies, Jazz inspired horn arrangements and funk driven drums.
As a versatile creative, Tanov takes charge of composing, arranging and producing all his songs. You’ll hear his lush trumpet melodies on almost every track he puts out.
Hugo Tanov was born in Berkeley, CA and was raised in a creative household. His mother Erica Tanov is a clothing designer, and his father Steven Emerson is a musician. Hugo started taking piano lessons when he was six years old and soon after picked up drums and trumpet. By age twelve he was playing gigs around the bay area with his father.
For High School Hugo attended Oakland School for The Arts where he played trumpet in the Jazz Band. Around this time he also fell in love with production, making beats for his friends to rap on and writing and singing his own songs. In his senior year of high school, Hugo first started singing on stage.
As a sideman, Hugo Tanov has performed and recorded trumpet with a wide range of artists. He has played in Salsa, Funk, RnB, Hip Hop, Psychedelic, and Indie Rock settings. Hugo has shared the stage with notable artists including Medusa the Gangsta Goddess, Ajai Kasim, JOI, Pete Escovedo and Georgia Anne Muldrow
Hugo Tanov holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Jazz Studies from California Institute of the Arts.
